Broken trash or recycling container?
If your trash or recycling container is damaged, the City can inspect and repair or replace it.

- Report problems with wheels, lids, or container damage.
- Applies to black trash and blue recycling containers.

What to expect
- Your container will be serviced on your regular collection day.
- Place the container out by 5:00 a.m. on your collection day.
- Leave the container out through the end of the service day so it can be inspected.
- Containers are repaired when possible or replaced when needed.
Note: Damage from normal use is typically repaired or replaced. Additional fees may apply for damage caused by misuse.

Bulk trash collection guidelines
Preparing bulk items for pickup
- Place items at the curb by 5:00 a.m. Monday of your scheduled collection week.
- Bulk piles may be no larger than 3 cubic yards (about the same volume as 3 ft × 3 ft × 9 ft).
- Do not block sidewalks, driveways, streets, or the public right-of-way.
- Keep bulk trash separate from regular trash and recycling containers.
- Remove hazardous materials before placing the pile out for collection.

What can go in bulk trash?
Household items
- Furniture
- Mattresses
- Non-hazardous household appliances such as stoves, washers, dryers, and water heaters
Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and other appliances containing refrigerants require special handling and are not collected through bulk trash.
Yard debris
- Tree branches and brush
- Grass clippings and leaves
- Palm fronds and other landscape debris
- Bag loose grass clippings, leaves, and similar debris.
- Cut tree limbs and branches to 4 feet or less in length and 6 inches or less in diameter.
- Stack branches and palm fronds neatly.
Not Accepted
Keep these items out
- Household hazardous waste
- Tires
- Batteries, including lithium-ion batteries
- Liquid paint
- Construction and demolition debris
- Refrigerators, air conditioners, and other appliances containing refrigerants
- Recyclable materials
- Animal, livestock, or agricultural waste
Large cardboard boxes are not bulk trash. Break them down and place them in the blue recycling container.

Common bulk trash questions
How often is bulk trash collected?
Bulk trash is collected once per month based on your zone.
Can I schedule a bulk pickup?
No. Bulk trash is collected on a set monthly schedule.
What time should I set out bulk items?
Set out bulk trash by 5:00 a.m. Monday of your scheduled service week.
Why wasn't my bulk trash collected?
Avondale says bulk trash may not be collected if items were:
- Set out too early or too late
- Contained prohibited items
- Set out during the wrong service week
- Exceeded the 3-cubic-yard limit
Once corrected, collection occurs during the next scheduled service month.
Do holidays affect bulk trash pickup?
Bulk trash follows Avondale's regular trash holiday schedule. The City identifies three citywide collection holidays:
- Thanksgiving
- Christmas Day
- New Year's Day
If collection falls on one of these holidays, service may be delayed by one day that week.
